My name is Russ Rainbolt
At 18 years old I moved to New York City to attend the School of Visual Arts, located on 23rd Street near Lexington Ave. I lived at the famed Chelsea Hotel, at first, the amazing hotel where Arthur C. Clarke and Tom Waites stayed.
Needless to say, I was immediately enchanted with the Metropolitan Museum of Art and all the glorious art of the past but as my Art History classes progressed that first semester, I found myself taking in every aspect of the Frick, the Modern, the Guggenheim, and then the land of oil paint and sculpture, the extraordinary world of Soho and the uptown galleries. The inspiration was extraordinary, and it has lasted a lifetime! Decades later I still clearly recall my first encounter with those stunning works of art.
What started as sketchbooks and small paintings at SVA has turned into murals, canvas work, and visual narratives that reach across walls and hearts. You won’t find stock photos or stiff bios here. You’ll find real moments, big ideas, and the brushstrokes of a life lived through creativity. Welcome to the canvas of my world.
